The first two seasons had some interesting drama and good performances, so you could ignore the issues with the plot and time travel, but now the show has just become so ridiculous that you cant take any of it seriously. Sci-fi can fall back on scientific explanations while fantasies can just make it up, but when its historical they don't have this luxury.įor a while i though that maybe there were different timelines, but once you get to the episodes where they reveal its one timeline you just find yourself asking well how can the present happen 20th century) without the past happening first? Wouldn't Clair have needed to have gone back in time, to be able to create the conditions for her to back in time?Īs well as this after season two the plot just becomes riddled conveniences and becomes really melodramatic. Its not a science fiction story or even a fantasy, its a historical epic and I'm sorry to say it just does not work at all conceptually.Īt the time of writing this, I'm near the end of season 3, so maybe they will fix the problem - ultimately the plot collapses because of Grandfather paradox (and pretty much every convolution created by time travel story's) but because its not sci fi or fantasy the writers can not come up with a coherent way of explaining it. The main problem with Outlander is its concept - time travel.
I'm not going to talk about the prison scene in detail, but unlike a lot of people it wasn't that bad for, although wayyyy overdrawn. In Outlander, some of the sex scenes are justified for this reason of developing plot and characters, but after a while you realize that pretty much every episode is going to have a sex scene between Clair and Jamie (apart from the time when they are apart for a few episodes) and it just becomes dull.
They are horrible and overused, and after a while you just become desensitized and realize that the producers just want too emulate GoT without realizing that what worked for GoT was that the sex scenes either pushed the plot forward or developed the characters. Most of the reviews here talk about the sex scenes, and they are all correct on that.
